The Franciscan Action Network discourages practices that treat the human person as commodity. 

FAN was created to encourage and empower persons in the animation of the Franciscan spirit. We embrace and celebrate the power of technology to serve that mission. However, we also recognize technology’s potential to create dependencies and to obscure the uniqueness of the person when employed uncritically. FAN is committed to using technology as a means in the service of an end: the dignity of the human person in creation. Dignity, according to our tradition, includes respect for a consistent ethic of life.  If we succeed in advancing a particular agenda but obscure the dignity of the human person, we will have achieved nothing. For, as the Gospel of Jesus Christ indicates, what good is it if you gain the whole world, but lose your soul?
