Franciscan Peacemaking in the Holy Land
Update: June 15, 2009

Eight centuries ago during the Crusades, St. Francis of Assisi went, unarmed, to meet the Sultan of Egypt. Placing himself between two armed forces, he sought to live out God's message of peace and reconciliation. Today, we, as Franciscans and Franciscan-hearted people, are called to demonstrate how our peacemaking tradition remains relevant. The various conflicts present in our contemporary world are in desperate need of Francis' hopeful witness.
