What is your connection to the Franciscan Family? Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia – 52 years Member – Franciscan Federation Member – Franciscan Action Network
How have you been involved in justice, peace, and care for creation, and for how long? The call to justice is a Gospel call which all of us share. I was moved to respond more activelyto this call through two events. The first was hearing a presentation by one of our Sisters whoquoted a Vatican document noting that “action on behalf of justice is a constitutive dimensionof the preaching of the gospel.” The second was attending the Plowshares 8 trial and hearingDaniel Berrigan, responding to the Judge’s question regarding why he had acted said, “I couldnot not do it!” I have been active for more than twenty-five years.
Why did you join FAN? I was invited by Congregational leadership who was responding to an invitation from FANshortly after the Baltimore meeting, to have one of our members participate as an ActionCommissioner. I responded in the affirmative because I see FAN as the vehicle which will bringall of our energies together in our quest for justice.
What are you working for in your area? We have corporate stands on war, immigration, the death penalty and human trafficking. Wealso work consistently on care for creation and the closure of the School of the Americas. Inaddition, we are strong in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility.
